Cross-stitch exists in various forms in our life, and for different types of cross-stitch it has different stitches, so what are the cross-stitch stitches and what are the skills of cross-stitch stitches, take a look below!
Simply put, cross stitch is made up of two stitches in the opposite direction of the "X", so, according to its image, it is what we call "cross stitch".
First, let's explain the six stitches of cross stitch
1. Full Stitch (X)
First from mesh 1 up, then from mesh 2 down, then from mesh 3 up, then from mesh 4 down, then from mesh 5 up, then from mesh 2 down, then from mesh 3 up, then from mesh 6 down, and so on.
2. Half-needle embroidery method (1/2X)
Half-needle embroidery is a diagonal line that forms half of a full-needle embroidery.
3. Quarter Stitch Embroidery
1/4 stitch embroidery is made up of half of a diagonal line. If you want the part left in the square of the border line to show different colors, you need to have 1/4 stitch embroidery to show it.
5. Backstitching method (side stitch)
The first stitch comes up from mesh 1, then goes down from mesh 2; the second stitch comes up from mesh 3, then goes down from mesh 2, then comes up from mesh 4 and goes back to mesh 3, except for the first stitch, each stitch returns to the original mesh. Back stitches are generally used for embroidering overstitching, outlines and letters.
6. French knot
Lift the needle to the 1 position and thread it out, wrap the thread around the needle once and insert the needle in the 2 position. Hold the end of the embroidery thread with the non-embroidered finger and pull the knot tight, while passing the needle through the fabric and holding the thread until it must be loosened. If you tie a large knot, increase the number of strands of thread as appropriate, but only wrap it once.
Commonly used tools for cross stitch
The choice of needle is absolutely necessary. There are two main types of needles. One type is the double thread needle with long holes, which is suitable for small to medium-sized fine work. The other is the short, thick needle (blunt needle) with a rounded tip that does not easily poke through the surface of the cloth. The size of the needle eye, the shape of the needle tip, and the length of the needle must all be considered when selecting a needle.
In addition, there is a water-soluble pen for drawing cross-stitch fabric. If you don't have a water-soluble pen, you can also choose a pencil, but pencils are not easy to wash off, and they are not professional cross-stitch tools after all. Also, there is a thread remover for embroidery. It is common to make mistakes in embroidery, so if you use a thread remover, you will get twice the result with half the effort.
There are also optional tools: embroidery frame, bandage, thread winder, small scissors, thread remover, etc.
Steps of cross-stitching
First of all, you have to make a grid: put the cloth and the pattern together, then use a pencil to make a grid on the cloth according to the pattern (pencil is easy to wash off), there are many small holes on the cloth, you don't need a ruler to make the grid, just count it and cross it down, it looks a lot of grid but it doesn't take long and is very simple.
Then, you can embroider with the grid, it doesn't matter where you want to start, you can't go wrong with it. Nowadays, cross stitch is getting easier and easier to embroider, and the cross stitch you buy in the store is often well-patterned, and the pattern is clearly visible on the top, so all we need is to choose the color according to the square and embroider step by step!
When you buy cross stitch, read the instructions, there are detailed stitching instructions. You can follow the instructions step by step.
General issues to note.
1, the direction of the problem, cross //// on all first this look
2, if the chart is small, as far as possible, a color chart together with the embroidery, save the trouble of always changing the line
3, if the chart is large, embroider one part by one part, so as not to embroider a mess.
In cross stitch, you should start from the top and use an embroidery pen to mark out the center of the pattern on the cloth.
Horizontal
(Horizontal cross stitches) In the case of a continuous horizontal cross stitch, embroider 1/2 stitch all the way to the right and back. This way, the threads will be in the same direction.
Vertical
(Vertical cross stitches) In the case of continuous vertical stitches, each stitch is embroidered in the shape of a cross and then down.
The final stitching method of cross stitch is to leave the threads unknotted at the beginning and end of the stitch, and to press the threads against each other on the back side, taking care not to tangle the threads.
Stitching
(Back stitch) In order to draw the outline and make the work more distinct, embroider along the edge as shown in the picture, or across the corners with diagonal lines. Usually 1 strand of thread is used when embroidering with 2 strands of thread, and 2 strands of thread are used when embroidering with 3 strands of thread.
1/2 th The way to embroider half of the X in the pattern. Use when you want to obtain the same effect as the shadow.
¼ needle This embroidery method is used when the markings on both sides of the hooked edge that passes through one frame on the pattern are different, or when only one side has a mark. The needle is pierced from one corner to the middle part of the grid, and only ¼ stitch is embroidered.
3/4 Stitch A method of embroidering 3/4 stitches on the AIDA grid, mainly used when embroidering circles.
After embroidering 1/2 stitch, then stitch ¼ stitch through the center of the grid, and the 3/4 stitch is finished.
French knot
(French knot is a method of embroidering seeds, dots, etc. by wrapping the thread in a knot.
First wrap the needle twice with thread, then hold the thread tightly (don't let the thread get loose) and thread the needle back down from where it came up.
